About Us...Our mission is simple - Uplift Black Fathers, acknowledge their commitment to their children, family, and community, and work to greatly
increase the number of children who have loving and healthy relationships with their fathers. We believe it is important to openly show our Black Fathers they
are appreciated, loved, and supported by family, friends, and community. We
believe if we're to strengthen the Black Family and Community, it cannot be accomplished without Black Fathers!
I am truly excited about our upcoming events!
Not only our we hosting our 6th Annual Black Father Appreciation Dinner, we are also hosting our 3rd Annual Black Father/Daughter
Sweet Tea! And, keeping with tradition, our dinner has been appropriately themed, "My Father The PromiseKeeper".
This past summer my son in-law brought his daughters
swimming at my place of residence. While they both enjoy playing in the water, the youngest is a little less adventurous.
As her daddy encourage her to jump into the pool from the side, you could clearly see some fear on her face. Her father
promptly told her "If you jump, I will catch you". As she took the big leap, true to his word, he caught his
daughter before she went to far below the top of the water! She immediately responded, "Daddy, you kept your promise."
Fathers, keeping your promise to your children is such a profound statement of your commitment to their life
and well-being. From the moment your child enters into this world, you have an obligation to "Say What You Mean,
and Mean What You Say!" You promise to Love, Protect, Lift Up, Encourage, Provide Daily Care, and most important,
you promise to lead by EXAMPLE! Your kept promises give a child security. It elimiates doubts. And, it creates
a bond between you and your children that will last a lifetime!
As we look to honor Our Black Fathers on May 19, 2012, at the newly remodeled SeaTac Marriott, I would
encourage you to begin to think of those great Black Fathers in your life who are PromiseKeepers! We want to know who
they are. We need to honor them, and our community needs to see who they are. This year
is an opportunity for all to become involved. Please take time to nominate a Black Father who may be a husband,
brother, father, friend, son, or even a colleague. You can even nominate many. It is such a testament when we
say "I know many great Black Fathers"!
Additionally, feel free to share your thoughts of last year's event.
You can send your comments via email to: info@ourblackfathers.com. We'll post them on the website. Please
take time to visit our "Wall of Honor". There are some great Black Fathers listed I'm sure you will
know. Continuing the Work to Honor Our Black Fathers, Marcee JonesBlack Father Advocate
