Wow! It's
hard to believe 2010 will be the 4th year Our Black Fathers© will host the Black Father Appreciation Dinner and
Celebration. Uplifting Black Fathers, acknowledging their commitment to family and children, and greatly
increasing the number of children who have healthy relationships with their fathers is our mission. Our theme for
2010 is "The Magnificence of the Brotherhood". Those five words speak volume to what can happen
when Black Fathers support one another. In 2009, one man submitted nominations for 13 men! This past summer I
pondered over the words that were written regarding each of these fathers. It's something when a man can say
he knows a "few good men". It is POWER when a father can say he knows many good fathers! This
is how community is strengthened. Fathers supporting fathers. It takes true intimacy to know a man is not only
a good father, but a good person in his community. It has become clear to me, it is this brotherhood that will help our community grow stronger.
Black Fathers supporting one another. That is the Magnificence of the Brotherhood. I invite you to attend
the 2010 Black Father Appreciation Dinner, Friday, May 21st at the Renaissance Seattle Hotel on 6th and Madison, and celebrate with us this Brotherhood of love
and support. I'm also excited about that for the first time, we have planned a "Fathers Do Matter Weekend".
That's right, we're planning events around the Puget Sound area that focus on the importance of Black Fathers in the lives
of their children. We're even hosting a Black Father/Daughter Sweet Tea. Fathers, imagine spending time in her world. Now, imagine this with a bit of a twist! We'll
be at Salty's on Alki for a bit of tea at high noon. However, we do know how to feed our men, so you won't
be disappointed with the luncheon (nor will you leave hungry)! In the meantime, feel free to share your thoughts of last year's event to info@ourblackfathers.com. We'll post them on the website.
Please take time to visit our "Wall of Honor" and past years photos.
There are some great Black Fathers listed I'm sure you will know. Warmest Wishes, Marcee Jones Black Father Advocate
